Definition

Let M be a differential manifold, E a vector bundle over M and a connection on E. Let mM and γ:[0,1]M be a loop at m (viz γ(0)=γ(1)=m. The holonomy of γ is defined as the following linear transformation at Ep: it sends vEp to the element ϕ1(v) where ϕt(v) is the transport of v along γ, with respect to the connection .
