Soul theorem

Statement

Any open Riemannian manifold $(M,g)$ with nonnegative sectional curvature contains a compact totally geodesic submanifold $S$ (called the soul), such that $M$ is diffeomorphic to the normal bundle on $S$, viz $\nu (S)$.
